Hello!
When I have my art on the cover of the New Yorker it’s always a wonderful day - week actually - filled with greetings from so people. It ALWAYS feels like a miracle - especially in this political climate. It was supposed to run a few weeks ago and was bumped until this week.
This is my daughter Sonya Kitchell with my grand daughter Mona on her back when we were at our friends place on the Jersey shore. Funny thing - I was supposed to be there for a week for a solo painting retreat. I knew Sonya really wanted to join me so I gave up half of my solo week. While this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind for my intended solo week, we ended up having a great time and I took some wonderful photos and painted this later. For me, time alone to paint is essential and this reminds me that it’s also good to be flexible!
Prints (framed and unframed without the logo are for sale in my shop - and I will
donate to Kamala Harris from sales of this print! Click HERE
This original art is also available to purchase. Respond to this email for price information.
I just wanted to let you know that while I am very committed to supporting Kamala,
and I will continue to keep politics out of our workshops. We don’t discuss politics during our live Zoom workshops. They are a place for people to hang out, relax, and draw and paint or just watch us and paint later from the video. To be honest - it’s usually all women and a few kids! But next weekend for our summer vibes workshop we have our special guest and he’s a guy! Hope to see some of you there. Click HERE to read more and sign up for the Zoom workshop “Summer Vibes” All levels are welcome. Jennifer and I always play around with lots of ideas for what we want to paint and I am still in that process, but pretty sure I will paint people in and around water as not much makes me happier than painting water! With all that’s going on, come hang out with us for a few hours in a political free space to draw and paint, or just watch and paint later from the video. I’ve been painting a lot with Mona as they are staying with us for a month! I got tons of great photos while taking her to swim lessons at our local lake every day for two weeks. She might make a guest appearance on Saturday- depends on nap time :) She and I celebrated her appearance on my New Yorker cover with a watermelon themed mani /pedi.

I am so excited to have made some new art friends this week after making a post on IG about supporting Kamala. I mostly keep politics out of my feed, but too much is at stake right now and I’m very inspired to do what I can for the next 100 days! One thing I can do, is donate to her campaign from the sales of my New Yorker art, Kamala portraits, and T-shirts.
Artists for Kamala Weekly Zoom Chat
Sharon Nullmeyer/ (@Nullsie on IG)
, Margot Tantau /@windowsillchats, and I are hosting our first Zoom artists meet up Wednesday night. 7-8 pm EST. Sign up and you will get the Zoom link on Wednesday. The plan for this weekly Zoom is to hear what you all are doing to stay engaged in Kamala's campaign, to raise money or anything else that you'd like to share. We are all new at this and just wanted to have a 'forum' where we can inspire and support each other.
We also had the idea to each start a sketchbook dedicated to Kamala's election. #kamalasketchbook. For each of us this will include drawings, words, ideas, paintings, etc. We will give a prompt each week for the Zoom call - and this week it'll be FREEDOM. Draw what that means to you, or if you're not an artist- no worries! Just doodle the word freedom!
We will post the video of the Zoom afterwards to everyone who has signed up and send an email with all links and things that were discussed.
If you’ve read this far - THANK you!
I always love hearing from you and hope to see some of you on Zoom this week!
Gayle
So much goodness in one post!
Beautiful cover! My cartoon is nestled somewhere in there!
